Samuel L. Jackson Thinks It’s ‘crazy’ How Quickly His Nine-picture Deal With Marvel Ended

Samuel L. Jackson says it’s “crazy” how quickly he’s completed his nine-picture deal with Marvel.

The 75-year-old actor first appeared as Nick Fury in 2008’s ‘Iron Man’ and admitted he expected the long-term contract he had signed would take years to fulfil, only to make his ninth appearance as the super-spy just over a decade later in 2019’s ‘Captain Marvel’.

He told GQ magazine: “I knew I had a nine-picture deal. [Marvel Studios president] Kevin [Feige] said that: ‘We’re going to offer you a nine-picture deal. ‘ How long do you have to be alive to do nine movies? It’s not the fastest process in the world. I didn’t know they were going to do nine movies in two and a half years. It’s crazy! Oh s***, I’m ending my contracts. It worked out.”

Despite his original contract expiring, the actor has no plans to retire his character, having also appeared in 2019’s ‘Spider-Man: Far from Home’, 2023’s ‘The Marvels’ and his own Disney+ series, ‘Secret Invasion’.

Elsewhere in the interview, in which he looked back at some of his most iconic roles, Samuel admitted that studio bosses had to spend a “lot of money” on reshoots of 2006’s Snakes on a Plane to add more swearing.

He said: “They were trying to make a PG-13 movie, and you’re only allowed to say s–t or something. And I said, ‘Look, I have to say one s–t in this movie. There are snakes all over the plane. ‘ And they said, ‘Sam, come on! No. ‘ I said, OK, I’m out. They test the movie and all of a sudden, we have to reshoot. It cost them a ton of money to get that s–t.”
