More than 15 years ago, a producer discovered Justin Bieber thanks to his videos on YouTube and now, a few months ago, Valentino Merlo , a 15-year-old from Rosario, went viral for singing in a pool with the support of his grandmother. Today the young musician is a sensation: he has more than 500 thousand followers on Instagram, he was recognized by Ángel Di María and Franco Colapinto and his songs are all the rage on all platforms.

Valentino Merlo is one of the singers of the moment. He was born in Rosario and started singing when he was only seven years old. In an interview with Flor Sciangula he revealed how his family discovered his talent. One day he was singing “Cactus” by Abel Pintos on the stairs of one of his grandmothers’ house when his other grandmother heard him and was amazed by his talent. “Let’s sing ,” she told him and it was they who paid for his first classes so he could study and train.

The Rosario native grew up surrounded by music, with different performances at events, until one day his life changed completely . Last year, when he was 14, a video of him recording himself while singing in a pool circulated on social media. It quickly went viral and everyone began to wonder who the little boy with such great talent was . It only took a few moments for him to become a revelation.

This week, Merlo was on Nadie dice nada (Luzu TV) and in addition to singing, he recalled the video that made him go viral. He said that it was during an aqua gym class at the season-ending event in a pool he was attending. “My grandmother Aurora tells me ‘are you ready to sing a song there with the speaker and the microphone?’” said the musician. At first he said no, that he preferred to stay away; however, in the end, he followed her advice and dared to perform in front of all the guests. And he did it well.

From one day to the next, the video of his performance went viral and even reached the hands of Ángel Di María , who celebrated the talent of another Rosario native and sent him a message that said: “I saw your video singing and it was truly spectacular. In just one year, Valentino became a rising young star. With the unconditional support of his family, he began to organize different performances and work side by side with his older brother, 20 years old, who composes the songs. The music videos for his songs “Si no estas” and “Loco” surpassed one million views on YouTube, while the one for “Tu otra mitad” has 12 million views.

In May, Merlo released a cumbia version of Gloria Esefan ’s song “Hoy” with The la Planta and it became one of the most popular songs of the moment. The video had more than 100 million views on YouTube and currently tops the Top 100 most popular videos in Argentina on that platform. In addition, she has made several collaborations with other artists, the most recent being “Angelito” with Nico Hernández.

The young artist received significant support from personalities in the media. In May, he released “Tu foto” with Q’ lokura and in June Luck Ra invited him to sing with him on his show . At the same time, just as Ángel Di María recognized his talent, in the last few hours the racing driver Franco Colapinto shared his interview on Luzu on social media and said: “How this kid rocks, a total crack.
